UPDATE: Mojang has attempted to restore the servers. They might either be slow or crash again. But the issue is for the most part resolved! (Further update: all services should be fully functioning).
It seems that minecraft.net, Minecraft’s authentication service, and multiplayer sessions service are all down (source). You can check in here and we will post when these services are back up. Here are some important tips:
- You can’t do anything – it’s Mojang’s problem, and they claim they need help from Amazon to fix it.
- There is no estimate of when the services will return.
- The reason you see some people on servers is because they went on before the sessions stopped working. As long as they don’t leave (or there is a server reset), they can play.

Some people are on the servers, so I don’t understand. This isn’t happening to everyone, but I don’t think it’s just me.
If you were on the server before the sessions stopped working, then you can stay on as long as you don’t leave.
So far you are the only person on the web who seems to have picked up on this. I’m so relieved i thought this was my personal problem. Can you not even get past the launcher?
Occasionally the login services will let you in. It is, however, the sessions that really hold us up, as any servers (unless they are cracked), mods (Tekkit, CD:C, etc.), and stuff like Realms don’t work without a valid session, which is generally validated when connecting to a server.

why is it down?
I’m not sure.
It is most likely down because of the Mojang Money Business thing. If you don’t know what I mean, Mojang is stopping the process of buying in game things such as ranks with real money. The reason this is happening is because Mojang is getting a lot of complaints from the parents of children that play mine craft and buy stuff with real money for no reason.

Yes, Mojang’s new policy will affect all servers with donations that provide an advantage with in-game mechanisms, such as super items.
I have tried to log on and it says Play Offline. I have checked and its down for security and authentication.
When will they be back up, any idea?
Not really. I can’t really remember many times it’s been down this long (almost 3 hours up till now).
I have the same thing going on and all of minecraft does im trying to fix it
we are updating minecraft and it may add some stuff and items but not a lot so we will let you know when its done.

It’s not your problem. Just check in occasionally and you will be notified when services are back up.
I can log in fine but i can play any multiplayer servers or realms. When i try to play realms it says invalid session id. Is this happening to anyomne else??? WTF IS HAPPENING!?!?!?

Yeah, the log in is a bit shaky and returns successful sometimes. Unfortunately, the sessions have been down with no function whatsoever for the past 3 hours.
Minecraft is preparing for 1.8, that is why they are down.

Yeah. Same for me. I cant join any server, and it seems like the techniclauncher is down too. It keeps saying Error for me. and on Minecraft 1.7.2 it doesnt let me join any server.

Mojang is quite good as fixing this sort of thing. So don’t worry about it.
My first diagnostic would be to reset the authentication servers, and when that doesn’t work using a packet analyser and going from there.

Whenever this happens, I just use Mineshafter.

Besides doesn’t mineplex have 3 owners not 1. And that wouldn’t do anything i have seen 4 go off at 1 time if anything it would crash “your server” (still don’t believe you) not all of sessions.
