How to put Homebrew on a Wii in 3 easy steps.

Get your Wii hacks right here: homebrew and apps, codemanager and ocarina, even code lists!!!

Step 1 – Get prepared

First, you should download (6 MB)

It incudes the following:

WAD Manager 1.3
IOS Downgrader 1.0
bannerbomb v1
codes (for codemanager)
hackmii installer 0.6
homebrew browser
indiana pwns (for installing homebrew on Wii 4.3)
private -> wii -> title -> rzde (for Legend of Zelda exploits)
codemanager (.exe)

Next, you should check your Wii’s version. To do so, click on the button with the crescent wrench in the bottom right corner of the Wii Menu. Then click on Settings, and in the top right corner, you should see a decimal number and a letter (for example, 4.2U) Take a note of this; you will need it throughout this guide. This tutorial covers versions 4.0 – 4.3 of the Wii. If you have anything below 3.0, upgrade your Wii (you will get 4.3). If you are anywhere between 3.0 and 3.9, you have a choice. You can upgrade to 4.3 or use the Twilight Hack (not covered here. You should use this if you own the game Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.). If you have 4.0 or 4.1, you’re in luck. These versions are easy. But 4.2 is even easier to hack. If you have 4.3, which you probably do, you can use LetterBomb, which is covered explained in this tutorial (also here)

Choose a hack based on your Wii’s version. For 4.3, use Letterbomb. For 4.2, use Bannerbomb (v2). For 4.1 and 4.0, use Bannerbomb (v1). For 3.9 and below, either upgrade your Wii to 4.3 or use a game-specific hack (preferably Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess). Do not use the outdated Wii Sports Resort hack for Wii 1.0.

At any rate, you’ll need an SD card that is preferably 2 GB or less, can be SDHC if you are not using Legend of Zelda hacks, and formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 (FAT format is a must!). Also, you will need a computer. If you’re using the Twilight Hack, go ahead and meet me back at “Step 3 – Installing and Using Homebrew”. You can go ahead to “Step 2 – Performing the Hack” if you have version 4.0 – 4.2.

P.S. If LetterBomb didn’t work for you, you can still hack 4.3, but you’ll need one of the following:

  • Lego Indiana Jones 1 and Indiana PWNS save file (included in the Wii Hacks file)
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl and the save file exploit (found here)
  • Another game with a similar exploit. (Return of the Jodi, Batmaxx)

Step 2 – Install the program

Before you begin – make sure your SD card slider is not locked. This makes it read-only and will cause an error when trying to install Homebrew or Bootmii.

Version 4.0 and 4.1 Bannerbomb

If you have version 4.0 or 4.1,

Version 4.2 Bannerbomb

This version is the easiest to exploit –

Version 4.3 Letterbomb

Readers Comments (3)

  1. I don’t see bannerbomb v2, which is recommended for 4.2. Am I missing something? -Thanks in advance!

    • less than 4.0 – upgrade
      4.0/4.1 – bannerbomb
      4.2 – bannerbomb v2
      4.3 – letterbomb

So yes, I haven’t finished the tutorial yet. But you should be able to find bannerbomb v2 somewhere else online.
