If you have an LG Stylo 5 but don’t want to use your PC to root it, there are a few ways to root it without using a computer at all. But before we get started, you should make sure that you’d like to root your Stylo.
Why root? Why not?
- You gain the ability to remove pre-installed apps and bloatware
- You can get a system-wide ad blocker to block ads in all apps
- Add custom Android skins and ROMs that can extend battery life
However, there are some disadvantages to rooting as well. For example, rooting your phone will invalidate the warranty provided by the manufacturer. Plus, if something happens during the rooting process, such as your phone running out of battery, it’s possible that your phone could get “bricked” and stop working altogether.
How to use KingRoot to root the LG Stylo 5
The Stylo 5 supports an app called KingRoot, which works flawlessly with the Stylo series and includes optimizations that can extend battery life by up to 30%, assuming typical use patterns.
- Download the KingRoot 5.3.7 APK from the XDA-Developers forum by clicking here. Once the app is downloaded, click on it to start the installation process.
- If you’ve never installed an APK file before, you’ll have to go to “Settings” > “Lock Screen and Security” and enable “Unknown Sources” to allow the installation of APK files.
- If you get a message along the lines of “Google installation blocked”, you can open the “More Details” menu and choose to install anyway.
- Once the app is installed, click on “Try It” and then click “Get Now” to start the rooting process.
- Once your Stylo is fully rooted, you can use “Root Checker” by joeykrim from the Google Play store in order to verify that root access is installed and configured properly.
