    Seeing a other player on a public server, will be the very hard thing to do, like missions/monsters, etc?

    • Yes, it will require a replica manager. NPCs (monsters included) can be spawned in but not interacted with due to the lack of a RM.

        • humanoid and lcdr are working on the RM (as far as I know). But they don’t share their progress now.

          • I hope there will come a day, when someone who’s working on it will say they can spawn monsters, NPC’s etc. ( and interact with them ofc)

    I think Neal has an Replica manager. He wont share it but he is already fighting with enemy some how. And he has already found an world that was never released. He was an A@@ I remember those early day’s. Anyway I have an theory. If he is indeed accessing these worlds. Then they are in an developer client or an normal client. Or he knows the check sums. I think he is in contact with an developer. Question is who ?

    • Actually, NPCs can be spawned, including smashables, without a replica manager.

    • Also, no one “has” a RM. Its just a plugin. Anyone with knowledge of the plugin can use it.

    • The way people are talking about this “Replica Manager” is like it’s a magically software that instantly makes everything work. It’s not that simple.

      “Replica Manager” is a plugin by RakNet. It is used to simplify client-server interactions.

      “Having Replica Manager” means absolutely nothing – it’s knowing how to use it to reconstruct the objects in LEGO Universe. In theory it’s completely possible to rebuild LU without using Replica Manager, but it would be much more difficult because it wasn’t originally designed that way.
      Thus, developers are working towards writing code that utilizes Replica Manager; they are not “making Replica Manager”, as many posters misunderstand how this process works. In essence, they are writing the backbone or framework behind how objects are stored, and Replica Manager can be used on top this framework to handle messages between the server and client.

      Keep in mind I post this with limited knowledge about how the LU server, LU client, and RakNet work, but I’m just speaking out of knowledge as a developer and knowing how client-server communication works.

  7. Okay, guys I’ve got an update, I have now completed the almost complete the /goto command! The only catch, is that the world ID’s are unknown to me. So, I can’t test it… 🙁

    I’m very surprised what you and the team have done in the last time!
    But I have still some questions:
    1.Which programms i need to play the game and run a server?
    2.Could you make a step-by-step video tutorial for how install and run game + server?
    3.Are you able to bring back npcs and enemies to the game in the near futur?

      • I’m not Timtech, but I can answer your questions.

        1. You will need XAMPP and Visual studio 2013. (As far as I know)
        2. Watch Joni2012’s Tutorial. There you will also find all required programs.
        3. It’s not sure. humanoid and lcdr are currently working on the RM, which we need to spawn NPC and enemies, but they don’t share any progress. So: Maybe, maybe not.

    • We have some German speakers here as well 😀 but I am unfortunately not one of them. Here are the answers to your questions:

      1. You need the recommended client (currently Nexus 2) and the recommended server (currently 0.5.1) from here.
      2. There are tutorials by Jon002, LEGO Universe Now, and joni2012 on this website and on YouTube.
      3. Hopefully, but I doubt the “near future” part.

    (You need Microsoft SQL, and probably visual studio 2013. NOT SURE WITH VISUAL STUDIO 2013!)

    • We could technically implement the /testmap command in the server by checking the string sent to the database (before I had to pause my work, I managed to get a chat message to always approve and send to the server… Although it didn’t want to display ingame above the player, and it made weird characters in the chat box). It basically would check /testmap to make sure it was correct and then check the ZoneID and match it with a correct ZoneID to teleport the player by sending packets to the client.

      BTW, I know I have been gone a while, but I’m really trying to get another chance to continue my work. All I can really do right now is research, but hopefully soon I can resume what I’ve been working on (although not as quickly as last time 🙁 )

        • Exactly! I really want to do this (I managed to get a launch pad sorta working… It took me to the loading screen (no rocket animation though – that makes calls to create and serialize the rocket parts through the RM) but it wouldn’t load correctly and it always tried to load BoNS for some reason 😛

        • I know at the moment you aren’t active in development but could you give me an example with what you typed in chat and what was the output in chat as soon as possible? 🙂

          I really want to help with my knowledge if anyone of you has a problem…

            Also, what I’m thinking about is soon creating another sourceforge forum for anyone who wants to develop. It will be strictly development-related (Anyone with questions will simply be told to come here 🙂 ), and it will have version control so that I will upload the server source to the website. Basically from there, I’d really like to get a development team together again (in one main location) along with the source so that everyone can see what’s happening, similar to what we were doing about a year and a half ago. What do you think?

    • This is an .msi, means that it is going to install the files in your computer, single-player only for now.

    • Also, Keyfeatures!

      1 – Walk, Jump, Run(W,A,S,D – keys to move – Spacebar – to jump)
      2 – Punch(Left-Mouse button)
      3 – Destroy crates(While punching, dedris does not remove, this is allready fixed in the next version)
      4 – Press ESC to open a Menu Hud to Exit the game, there is a small ‘X’ button on the Upper-Right conner to exit the menu.
      5 – Healthbar and Shielding bar
      6 – Footstep sounds

      There is no patcher on this game, I pretend to do one soon.

    I make a remake of Lego Universe called LEGO Universe RELOAD because I don’t come on with my server and if here maybe what I don’t hope is that we here don’t come on with the LUNI Server…

    • MD3, I know it’s a cool idea but it’s actually a deflection from the main project LUNI.

      • Right, but if LUNI not work what I not hope because I think my remake are not so good how the main LEGO Universe and it is never so good how the real LEGO Universe and if it not work or they come not on then we have a plan at the back…

          Why are you wanting to start on another little project? These solo projects are hopeless because they will take years. People lose their hope and focus way too easily. People act like LUNI is gonna fail now because there has been no new progress for a while. 0.6 seems to have attracted a crowd of people and now they are becoming negative about it.

  26. Well, I have now been able to help a little more with the project again! I currently have created a new sourceforge forum dedicated to LUNI Development here:

    This project will host a GIT repository of the server source, a forum for developers (must want to help with development too – users will need to eventually pass a couple simple tests in order to gain access to the GIT repo), and a file hosting system that will work when we get the EXEs compiled.

    Now, I know people don’t like restrictions, but I really want the forum to be development only. Anyone who wants to help is welcome (no restrictions to post – only that it is not spam and related to development) and if you feel you are able to have access to editing the source code directly, we can arrange that!

    Also, to humanoid24, lcdr, and pwjones (or anyone else from the old team who views this), I’d love to re-create the old team again with new devs as well that want to join (This project’s code is simply the old LUNIServer code (along with raffa’s SUtil, which I gained permission to edit with credit) that I have updated to 0.6). I want everyone to eventually, at least check it out! I feel development discussion is very limited here (hard to search for that specific comment) and so I hope this will solve it, as well as possibly speed up projects (“Two heads are better than one” – Or three, four, etc.). Let me know what you think as well!

        • Oh! I though you meant how to post. I have not finalized everything, and so I am not letting anyone become a Dev currently. Once everything is in place, I will post how to allow Dev access.

          Basically, what people will (most likely) do is have a few small coding projects (maybe 4-5). They can then selected 2-3 (numbers are not finalized yet) and email their solutions to me. I will then grade them (not like a school grade) and determine whether or not you need more practice. What will happen is then i may be able to help guide you in an area that best suits you (packet examination, server programming, database programming/searching with SQL and the server, etc). These are NOT set things to do, rather I hope they will help you figure out what your strengths and weaknessss are. All you need are two-three passes on the tests and then you will be allowed to edit the source and push it to GIT. After making sure your edit is worthwhile, of course :). I will have instructions for that too…

Hey Timtech, the !Goto command, can you make it so that you can only do the command when your at a rocket; like say you want to go to the nexus tower and you’re at the nimbus station, you go up to the rocket where you would go to the nexus tower and press shift ( which will activate the !Goto command ) and that way we won’t have to remember all the names of the places, like if we type in !Goto nexus_tower and it doesnt register because it’s suppose to be nexus.tower or maybe Nexus.Tower or Nexus_Tower either way, see how that could be a problem? Tell me your thoughts <3

  31. Hey all! Temporary return from the pit of schoolwork. 😛

    Does anyone know of a way to get the server to compile on Linux? I did a little bit of testing, but haven’t gotten it to work with WINE (with the Windows MVC (?) DLLs) or stock G++.

    If anyone is able to find a way to make this work, I’ll be able to actually have more of a possibility of contributing.

    • Er, compile or just generally run.

    • I like Linux, but unfortunately you’re going to have a hard time getting the server to run on it…

      • Is there a reason for running it on Linux? Neither the server not the client is programmed for Linux, so what are you trying to do?

        • Here’s my reason:

          Apache opens security holes. As such, I do not want to just run it through XAMPP on my home machine, especially as that introduces MORE security holes. I’m going to be signing up for the Github student developer’s backpack, which includes credit for DigitalOcean hosting, which is Linux only. As an alternative, I could also install a Linux VM that is completely disconnected.

          In that line of thought, why is Apache even needed? It’s a web server, as in webpages.

          • It’s needed to manage MySQL via phpMyAdmin.

            So, yeah, I don’t want to run Apache on my machine, especially through XAMPP. 😛

          • Yeah, phpMyAdmin serves webpages. 0.5.1 doesn’t need the .sql database, though.

          • Never mind, I found I can get Windows Server free through DreamSpark that I can run on a VM.

          • I hope some of you guys understand that you can run MySQL by installing the server (with the installer) and don’t actually NEED xampp. (MySQL with the official installer goes to everyone if you make a certain account and portforward, I’m fairly sure that with xampp MySQL you need to do a lot to get it public)

  33. Hey guys I have a YouTube channel where Im starting to make LU videos. My most recent one is 0.5 server. I wanted to know if the 0.6 server had its bug fixed withe the infinite loading screen. I want to make a video and have this fixed. How do I do this?

    • Someone had followed Jon’s instructions on how to fix is and was able to make it work. I think that was Mater? Could the fixed file in question, or just the whole server be re-released with that patch?

    • It is not a bug. 0.6 takes a completely different approach (dynamic packet construction) which is what we need to use to add most of the missing features. Unfortunately, Jon only got authentication + character stuff done, and world loading hasn’t been done that way yet.

      • Actually, it was a bug. There was an issue with the checksums.

      • (Of course, you can’t enter with your own character)

      • In a sense, it’s not necessarily a bug. Sure, I can load the premade CheekyMonkey character by sending the packets again, but I’m working on making it so you can load your own. This will basically be a whole lot better, and will be able to allow you to do a whole lot more. As knightoffaith said, you cannot enter with a new character, and so I feel that if I allowed world loading to happen in 0.6, people may get their hopes shattered by noticing that it does not load your newly created character. But I’m working on it! (I’m trying to get a Dev team together… It is taking me a long time as I’m really the only one working in it currently).

        • I’d like to be able to help out a bit, I just need a bit of structure in what I need to do. While I don’t have the ability to run the server now, I will once I get set up with DreamSpark and set up Virtualbox with WS2012, which shouldn’t be difficult (I just can’t guarantee a time frame, as I want to make sure I do it right, and I need help from my ‘admin’ (dad ;p)).

    Would you, and your ‘team’ try to focus on a Replica Manager, and try to make that your minifigure is ‘working’, and you can see other players?
    I think that would be AWESOME! Because, if there will be a public server, everyone from here, would come into that public server, and we would be able to chat with other players, etc. (If it would work, this game will be ‘playable’)
    I hope you guys will try to do that!

    • Would be great, but I’m pretty sure that no one here, except possibly John who’s been busy, has the knowledge to implement RM.

      • What about CDFalcon?

        • No idea what the scope of his knowledge is, I haven’t heard him talk about implementing that yet.

          • He tried + failed, probably. I recommend seeing how Jon002 constructed the packets dynamically for authentication and characters and then implement something similar to work with the replica manager, since dynamic packet construction is necessary.

          • Yep. I think the method he used can also give some hint as to how it needs to be implemented, as I believe a plugin was used (?).

  36. Tim, is there a possibility that you could add email notifications for new comments? It would make life a lot easier not having to continually refresh the page and possibly miss something that’s embedded in a long quote chain.

  38. Okay guys, I have been gone awhile, so sorry about not posting. I have been working on my MCPE server, and havent done much to LUNI for awhile. I have noticed that some of you are designing LU spin offs. That is great! though I would recommend combining all projects…

    I also noticed some people above questioning the replica manger, and if I was working on it. Tim was the closest in what I had done, saying that I had tried and failed… Only I wouldnt say It was a fail, I just got bored 😉

    Also, good idea about the forum Jon002. I enjoy visiting the old forums and seeing the progress in them.

    I will be trying to get out that tutorial I promised, but it may take me awhile.

    • Oh yes, almost forgot, if anyone is wondering about my skill level, here is what I think of myself :

      Server: Understands, can edit, but not create new scripts.
      RakNet code: What, is this code???!!! 😉
      Char packets: Can edit, add on to, and is working on creating some new ones(this is definitely my best area…)

  41. Hello TimTech! I was looking at the LUNI Wiki today and I saw that it is seriously outdated. I want to make a contribution to the LUNI Project in any way possible (coding is not my thing), and I feel that by editing the wiki, I can make a worthwhile contribution. I realize that you don’t know who I am, but for the benefit of the community, I ask that you grant me admin rights to the wiki. I’ll work on it whenever possible, and I’ll add lots of content related to the project. If you decide not to give me the rights, that’s also fine. I’ll add pages and make edits on the wiki the normal way. If you do decide to add me, my username is “jmmj0103”. Whatever your choice may be, I thank you for taking time to read my request.

    • Sorry, but I think that could cause bad stuff to happen. I can manually edit typos and update comments if necessary, however.

  45. I have a question if you managed to finish LU there will be also in Germany?

    • In Germany? Yes, all areas around the world will have equal access. The client can be played in the German language, and since German is probably the second most spoken here at LUNI, there will probably be servers dedicated to Germans once we’re done.

  46. Hey! I finally figured it all out, however, I can’t access any worlds other than Nimbus Isle. Whenever I change the hex file for the character in the server file, and load up server, it says “world loaded” etc. But when I try to join the world via the default player that works, it goes to loading screen hits 1% then white screens. What could be causing this?

    We really need some progress and the Devs
    just dissappear?
    I mean we really need an RM and
    Icdr and pwjones and all the other
    devs except Tim , Jon002 and CDfalcon
    aren’t here!

    • I’m looking into the RM with varied success. The ‘other devs’ are working on stuff privately, as far as I know.
