LEGO® Universe

Welcome to the LEGO Universe, newly imagined (LUNI) server project.

We’ve moved to LUNIServer.com. You can expect us to be moving there, since there are forums, tutorials, and lots of help.

  1. Hey can someone please email me when they will add enemies then ill install this launcher cause its kinda boring just playing without any stuff.

  2. I found this link yesterday guys, I think it’s worth clicking on. Trust me on this, it’s not inappropriate.
    http://www.5z8.info/php-start_GPS_tracking-user_g5n1uu_hookers

  3. Thank you Tim for the hint of RSS. I got a RSS-Reader on my smartphone now. 🙂

  4. who here as google+? We should make an LU hangout

  5. how do you get these LU points things?

  6. I wanted to ask everyone in the meantime — what faction was your main minifigure?

I had a single minifigure that was in Paradox, I thought the whole shadowy ninja-likeness of them was cool at the time.

    • My very first minifigure was a summoner of the Assembly. I started to play immediately after official release so it was boring after a time. Then I started to play as a samurai of the Sentinels. Also this was boring after a time so I paused playing the game. (It was a mistake… I had to enjoy every second of the game)
After 1 or 2 months I started to play again and I deleted my summoner (I don’t know why :D)
Then I started to play but I noticed that the Assembly faction was very cool so I started to play as an engineer.
This engineer with the name “Steinsammler22” was my main character at the end. 🙂

      • My original minifigure was named “rebound”, but I didn’t actually have him for long. I ended up getting stuck in a property, and since I didn’t know I could destroy myself to get out, I ended up deleting him. Luckily there wasn’t much time put into him.
So I made another Paradox minifigure, and named him “rebound2” in tribute to the original rebound. I had rebound2 since I made him, and he was the only one I had until the end.

      • My first Minifig was Sentinel because i used to love the colour Blue (My favourite now is black, but in actual colour still blue.) And i loved every bit of it, no other class was ever as good as Sentinel to me, Maybe it was because it was my first time! But i dont know! I bought lego universe a few days after it had come out (I wanted to pre-order but i didnt have the money) and i got bored after a week or so, so i quit, forgetting about the game i came across it while searching for a new game to play and i remembered “I used to play this game!” then i saw there was a FTP option so i ran the game and found i couldnt log on because i was in nimbus station, sooo i bought a membership and enjoyed my last few months on lego universe :(I dont know whether to be happy or not :P)

      • timtech? You were F2P also? What level did you get to?

        • Umm, like a single digit level. I found out about LU way too late… I had the CD with key for one month of paid but it was already January so I had to go F2P 🙁

          • That’s unfortunate. I wasn’t aware of this: so you had a month paid but weren’t allowed to use it? Not even partially and getting a partial refund?

      • Well, for those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to join a faction, if you could’ve made the choice, what would you pick?

        • I don’t consider myself unfortunate for missing out on factions, I would have been thinking more of the many other worlds and crux prime gear and stuff like that when considering the pros of being a member. If I had to choose I’m pretty sure now I would have chosen Paradox but back then I could never decide 😛

          • I suppose I worded that incorrectly…
But anyway, I still got the answer I was looking for.
Nice job on level 42 in F2P by the way!
I believe I got to 42 (or 43) as well, since I didn’t play much after the level system for LU was released, and because I was given level 40 by default.

    • Assembly! (best faction ever)

    • I was F2P! But as I’ve said at least twice now I was level 42 so it’s a little special! Once again I refer you to the link: http://legouniversearchives.wikia.com/wiki/RandomSmartyWarrior

When someone made that page I edited it to add some of my personal stories so if you’re interested…

To the above very long quote change the steam group is LEGO Universe Newly Imagined no one has really used it for much communication or any as of yet but you can. =P

  8. HappyAngryCatfish April 11, 2015 @ 6:41 PM

Was talking to caboose1543 on steam he said he forgot his password and that’s why he isn’t posting anymore. =P

  9. For the ones who tought we were DEAD! Enjoy! =)
    http://youtu.be/3azheuSsmno
    _______________________________________________
NOTE: We Are Not Dead, we’re just dev. in silence(It’s Better That Way)

    • Once it processes. :p

    • Ok, constructive criticism:

The minifig rig seems a bit too flexible. While you wouldn’t want to treat it physically, minifigs are made of plastic, so keep that in consideration!

Drops shouldn’t really be using physics. They should probably pop up and just ‘float’.

The environment is a bit realistic. make it a bit more cartoony.

These are nitpicks and I know it. Nice job!

      • The graphics will be updated, the textures are Unreal Originals, that’s why it is not “cartoon” like.
About the coins to float, after they explode it’s the idea of making the float and spining, to show that it is collectible.
The Minifigure Rig is 100% Based on LU Ones, we also see the original game files to help us make the models and textures.

        Thanks.

    • That’s really good! Maybe you could get a spot on http://legouniver.se/software

    • Good Job Alanzote!
Don’t give up on this project, me, and probably everyone here want to see your game in full version! 😀

  10. So what is this whole LUNI project?

    • Creating an application that acts like the old LU server so that people can play the game again.

    • We are newly imagining LEGO Universe…

and that’s why we need devs, because imagination ≠ hard work 😛

  11. Whos the owner of this how are they bringing back lego universe is this illegal??

    • Because it’s an Open Source Project, no one and everyone owns LUNI. We or better: They try to create an Server for the Lego Universe Client. That’s reason 1 why it isn’t illegal: the LUNI team doesn’t edits LEGO Software. Reason 2 is that lego gave us the permission to do this.

  12. Tim, are there news about the german client I gave you?

    • Not really, since I noticed that the language-specific files are already in the “Nexus 2” client (I think). I’m just trying to figure out how to make the client switch languages. I did find a couple pictures hiding in the patcher cache, though 🙂

  13. Okay, here comes my suggestion about Mythran handling (not really interesting now, but maybe later):

    1. Head Mythrans:
The five people on the top of the LU-Point list. They are the highest instance of mythrans and change once a year.

    2. Server Mythrans:
The owners of a public server. Could grant “Helper Mythrans” rights. Can’t elect “Special Mythrans”.

    3. Helper Mythrans:
Helps the “Server Mythrans”. Can’t elect “Special Mythrans”.

    4. Special Mythrans:
People who are important in development but not on the top of LU-Point list.
Elected once a year by “Head Mythrans”.

    • Nice idea! Head Mythrans would be really hard to force, because this is open-source and the server owners could edit them out. I think it should be “head mythran” (server owner) who could grant mythran to other people he trusts (helper mythrans), on a server-to-server basis.

  14. Hey, Tim? This comment section is getting way to filled up… I try and sift through other comments trying to find something that could help development… So, I ask:

Can we have a separate forum for people developing?

  15. @Knightoffaith
Thank you for your help with EBNF. I understand the documentation now. 🙂

  16. I have a question.
Theoretically I could spawn a stromling on a hardcoded position right?
But if I want the stromling to spawn next to me I need a RM to get my position right?

    • what, you can spawn enemies?

      • Yes, just like the NPC’s in Nimbus Station. But I think (I’m not a developer) for this we need the RM. Otherwise we would also could interact with those NPC’s. But if you manage to do that, I think this will be great.

    • At the moment I’m playing with locations to optimize my EasyWorldChanger. 😀

      • inform us/me if you improve the world changer, I’ve been using it and I like it. I have 2 suggestions if it’s appropriate:

        1. If possible make it so that the worldchanger remembers where you luniserver.exe is so you don’t have to go through your folders to get there (what can I say, I have a lot of folders! 😛 )

        2. Also if possible allow one to, after selecting a world for one character, go back and select a different character and their world, that way it’s just easier to do a quick log out of one character and switch to another with the world you want already assigned to it.

        • Well if #1 is made then #2 is not really necessary 😉

          • nah it actually is because the program closes itself and you have to open it again. So it would hopefully be one where you open it, get to where you need to be on it quicker and then after selecting a character you can go back and select another without the program closing and being reopened.

  17. Wait are all worlds for free to travel and do they work? Please reply

  18. By the way whos Lego Universe Now Youtuber? I watched all your videos and I got a question are those your characters that you played 2 years ago on when lego universe was alive?

    • That’s startreklover.

      • oh right, well I managed add him to the LUNI Google Hangout which I’m sure nobody will use but it was just a suggestion. I went through LUPoints leaderboard to get users and found several on google+ but for some reason I’m not familiar with I couldn’t add them to any hangouts. So it’s basically just you, tim, as well as startreklover and joni. If anyone wants to use it: it’s there!

  19. Also just asking does this client have it where you can pick your class like the pirate. I dont think this is added yet but I’m just asking.

  20. Oh im back and thanks everyone who answered my questions 😀

  21. Jonny I read what you emailed me 😀 thx

  22. Jonny is that you playing you emailed me the pics and also Jonny if i login with any account what will I have as my characters??

    • yes that was me playing using LUNI. You just login with a random name and a random password every time and the characters are always the same for the moment. The characters you get are called Monkeybrown, CheekeyMonkey, Shastafantastic and Gruntmonkey. I’m pretty sure to begin with you select monkeybrown to go to nimbus station, CheekeyMonkey to go to nimbus isle, shastafantastic to go to Gnarled forest and Gruntmonkey to go to Crux Prime and if you want to see other worlds the easiest way is to follow the link Tim gave you further up the page in order to download the world changer. Also Monkeybrown has no jetpack and I think, although the other 3 look different on the character selection screen, they all load the same (looks like cheekymonkey) and he has a jetpack so I recommend using him in case you fall down a chasm! O_O

  23. Oh thanks really helped oh ok so they still are adding so you can create your own characters not spawning in with 4 characters. Well cool I cant wait till they add enemies and quests!

  24. Guys have you considered the fact that when you add the enemies back into the game you are basically reinfecting a clean universe with maelstrom! 😛 SHAME ON YOU!

  25. Guys Check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmtdvzfGKo8 😀 soon Lego Universe will be back!

  26. Tim, I’m not sure what you’ll think of this, and I’m not sure what your hosting is like, but I’ll throw this out there anyhow.

I think you should just transfer everything to legouniver.se, and make it a dedicated hub for LUNI. If it’s possible, include all info, file downloads, forums, chat, update feed, and an installation of GitLab for working on the source (no dealing with an external source control cite).

If you can install GitLab, Jon should probably get highest rights if he can for administration purposes, as he’s done the most with the code and I’m pretty sure we all trust and respect him. I suggest requiring users to submit 2 pull requests of some substance that get merged before they have rights to push to the main branch. Hopefully this can assure they know what they’re doing and won’t wreck anything. If needed, this can be adjusted, but protection should be in place and fair.

  27. Does anyone else wonder how LOCO and LMO are still open when LU needed to be shut down? How do these clearly inferior games both in plot and gameplay stay afloat? I like the story in LOCO but it’s not a scratch on LU and the gameplay isn’t so good. I thought LMO was gonna be better but I tried it a few times and it’s even worse! How do these games make any money!? Is it actually all due to the smaller things you can buy like in game items? If it is then why didn’t they just add that to LU and save it! This has actually reminded me of that other thing lego said which disappointed me. They said they could have left the game open with no updates but they though we’d ‘get bored’. WHAT THE BRICK WERE THEY THINKING!?

    • They didn’t know that we were addicted to the game. 😀

Sry. I have to make bad jokes from time to time…

The thing is that LEGO Chima Online and LEGO Minifigures Online are built on F2P. LEGO Universe was built on subscriptions and then they “tried” to make it F2P.

    • They lied to us on top of it, saying they “cared” about the LU community…
If they cared they wouldn’t make the game so hard to access once shut down. They dismantled and threw LU into a dumpster.
3 years later, they disabled the LU message boards.

My interest in LEGO things in general died with the closing of LU.
      I haven’t bought a set in 3 years.

      • @MrYorky

I agree, it actually seemed as if they were brutally and mercilessly attempting to rip LU from us, maybe even in order to nudge us towards the new themes. They had the sentimental words and they sounded believable but you’re totally right, they threw it out, locked it up and through away the key, disposed of it in the least gracious manner. Such a shame. I bet the LU MBs loss was taken badly. I rarely went there being part of the generally secluded LUCL community. I was building there till they shut it down. 🙁

My interest in LEGO plummeted definitely but my feelings about Star Wars, being a licensed theme, were completely unaffected and the sets and minifigures seemed to be improving so I kept on with them. Mostly though I just buy old sets and minifigures off of bricklink, bat lords, explorien bots, even the paradox mech xpod since all that is for my ‘LU Collection’. Just recently I aquired the nexus rocket and astronaut; I was thrilled! But generally it’s just sad that lego is failing, their new ideas are just bad.

        • In my mind I link most unlicensed themes to LU like castle, pirates and city and stuff, eg. by imagining lego city planet and Ashlar as being worlds outside of the nimbus system but in LU (basically meaning clutch powers was an LU prequel in a way :P). Every new theme is worse than the last though.
I like all castle but surely you must agree that castle 2007 was better than kingdoms which was in turn better than castle legends 2013. Agents was better than ultra agents. Pirates was closed down for no reason, new pirates looks pretty good but why’d they wait so long? Chima was something they said would make us “wish they’d stopped ninjago sooner”, which I didn’t agree with but now I do as since LU ended ninjago became a joke! Skulkin was obviously the best. ZX ninja were ugly. And chima was overpublicised. I have a screenshot of a day when every single tiny portion of the lego homepage was entirely devoted to chima 😛 . Then there’s the thing I hate most of all…

          • The LEGO Movie. :O

They could have made a lego epic, they could have made a movie with a sensical mix on unlicensed themes, they could have even made LEGO Universe: The Movie! And they made that stupid, nonsensical piece of twaddle. Many of you may like it but how could gandalf and superman ever meet!? Two different universes! I hate mixing licensed themes. Also why make it silly when it could be so epic and exciting, dark and beautiful. LEGO can make things as wonderful as LU and places like Avant Gardens then they make that with no thought for any real quality. Many disagree with my dislike for the lego movie but who here wouldn’t have rather had something to do with LU?

        • Yeah. The best example is the closure itself. For me the universe wasn’t rescued. The servers shut down immediately but they didn’t make something like “Now the nexus force has defeated the maelstrom so the story ends”. They simply shut down the server. It was heartless.

          • actually I’m glad it just closed like that. It’s good because it means the actual day of closure was huge to us but inside the storyline it was insignificant, just another normal day in LU. Therefore stories and things can be written after that involving the maelstrom and a backstory exactly the same as when the game was open only now since they’re set after things can happen, eg. The crash of the Venture Explorer which is in a story I’m writing now.

          • You’re right. It was a normal day in LU but that’s the reason why we try to bring back the game. To end it for us. Once you reach the end you’ll be bored. It’s kinda right what LEGO said… But at the moment of LU’s closure we didn’t reach the end…

        • also please excuse my rant. LEGO Universe closing and the current rubbish lego can come up with gets me frustrated 😛

          • I would never have got bored. I did the daily missions every day in Avant Gardens, hence my being Level 42 and I always enjoyed it! I don’t want the official storyline to end, I imagine the ‘maelstrom war’ going on for a few hundred years!

          • Corporate greed, my friend.
Lego closed the game because of lack of profit.
Everything they make now is overpriced rubbish.
They’ve taken advantage of their consumers and are just sucking the money away from them.
I still like Legos, but what the company has done with their product in the past few years has been almost entirely wrong.

    • Wait, LMO is closing? It just launched!

  28. HappyAngryCatfish April 12, 2015 @ 2:20 PM

Anyone in contact with Neal know if he has any serious progress?

  29. @Jon, @Tim, @Jon

Do I have to bit-shift the location values in packet ‘SC_[53-05-00-02]’ ?
(Sry if I annoy you but I really want to learn how to use packets. :()

  30. LEGO UNIVERSE is AWESOME!!!!

  31. Cant you delete one of the characters and just create your own like that?

  32. @redsuperhero We know you are excited about this project, but use ‘Reply’ button, please!

  33. I decided to make screenshots of LU if I think it’s suitable. 🙂

    For example:
    http://i.imgur.com/jB4PyTx.png

You can stalk me on Imgur if you want to see other pictures. 😀
    (http://imgur.com/a/MHomx#0)

  34. Question: Do you guys ever build LU creations or write LU stories? Or do you just labour over computer files? 😛

  35. that’s from my long-running LU based picture story but there’s not so much LU stuff in it since I didn’t want to ruin it with poorly copied stromlings. [censored] you lego for not making LU sets!

Anyone want a link to an actual LEGO Universe Story I’m writing?

    • woops, already changed that and posted it again, a few comments of mine got “awaiting moderation” so I’m afraid there may be a few double posts now :S

  36. I had to delete some valid comments since the Reply button script was temporarily broken. Sorry about that 🙁

  37. @joni what does ppscht actually mean though?

@MrYorky Corporate greed maybe but lego is a company after all and their number one concern has to be good profits otherwise what’s the point? And without a point they would shut down. And with them shut down we’d be out of the brick game!

  38. so who has finished reading my story?

    • I just did!
Honestly, it’s great. Good detail, although, the Lego theme here just doesn’t fit. I know Lego tried to incorporate some Japanese/Chinese themes into LU with the Ninjago Monastery and Forbidden Valley, but I feel like this would work better if all Lego related details were removed and this was made a standalone short story, which I’d think this would work best at.

Other than that I’d say it’s a good little read.

      • well thanks for at least complimenting me on my writing but there’s a reason I’m here! I love LEGO Universe, the whole point was for it to be an LU story. Without lego how could Kotatsu have used a rocket? In a generic ancient japanese theme there would be no technology. Also the backstory makes it. Personally I though forbidden valley was amazing, I loved the inclusion of all those interconnecting themes, I only wish lego hadn’t lost the skill to do that in a intelligent way. Ninjago was a nice addition as well, now all the old ninjago sets are LU sets too!

  39. Knightoffaith, I see you’re having problems with the anti-spam plugins. I recommend clearing your browser. If you have any problems, you can always e-mail me.

  40. Lets see, can I actually post now?

  41. Ok… Maybe you can help me now. 🙂

I posted a question maybe 20 comments ago.

    Here it is:
“Do I have to bit-shift the location values in packet ‘SC_[53-05-00-02]’ ?”

  42. Ok, so anyhow…

Tim, please take a look at this: http://timtechsoftware.com/?page_id=1065&cpage=48#comment-16535

@Joni: No bit shift needed. Only if there’s a boolean. Look at it this way: If I write a hex value of ff it would look like this: 11111111 11111111 (8 1s). Now, what if I started out with a 1-bit bool of false? 01111111 11111111 1 That will look like 7f, then one bit on the end (7 extra bits of null, or 0, will probably be added onto the end, so that 1 bit will actually look like 80 I think)

@The whole conversation about LU’s closure, LOCO, and LMO: First off, LOCO’s closing if you haven’t heard. Now, think about it. LU had a MUCH higher initial investment in it, not helped by the fact that they had to REDO the whole thing, doubling the resources it would’ve taken otherwise. They needed a much higher income to support the game than LOCO or LMO, probably much smaller games, and it is possible that their pricing and content simply wind up getting them more profit. I’m not sure what your issue is with how LEGO handled LU’s closure. They’re a smart company, I wouldn’t expect any smart company to hand out proprietary assets or keep supporting a small community remaining of a game that had to be cut years earlier by the simple decision that they couldn’t generate enough revenue for it to be a worthwhile business venture (something they NEED to judge, not just absorb because they want to be nice).

    • Reminds me of LEGO Loco, a nice train game I have 😉

“I think you should just transfer everything to legouniver.se, and make it a dedicated hub for LUNI.”

      What do you guys think?

    • LOCO is closing!? argh! I spent ages on that character! Why do they keep doing this! I think LU’s closure was handled fine, it’s what happened after which was bad. They disowned LU and introduced bad themes. We’ve lost the LU MBs and the LUCL and they never reference LU in anything when they obviously should. Simple as that. But of course, it was a business venture, we simply can’t expect a company to keep a non-profitable one going! It’s perfectly fair that they shut down LU. Having not been rebuilding it for 3 years myself though, I suppose I may feel less bitter about the whole ‘throw the files in the bin’ thing.

      • They saw it as failed, there was barely any community left there, and honestly they should do something with what LU did right. And why would they go and give people their IP or reboot something they rightfully saw as failed from their ptospective? It would make no sense, and there are barely ANY people who would do that. Not good business logic any way around.

        • I noticed it was dwindling. When I log in which very rarely there’s never anyone on LOCO and my friends list is about 100 people long and I haven’t seen any for months!

    • Ok. Thank you. 🙂

  43. So, In response to all the drama between the TimTech + Jon002 VS Raffa505, I have decided to create a GitHub repo and I have made it so that Raffa (Nor any other of the LUNI devs,) can bite us back in the butt.

This repo gives the Devs full credit and is under Creative Commons just like the original, as the license states, I am not breaking the law.

I also have put a disclaimer that we are not affiliated or endorsed by TLG.

One thing I would like to vote on here is: Who should run it? (Even though I created it, there could be better people that could do it.)

(You can nominate your own leaders but right now I am going to nominate the biggest people on the site)

    Nominations:

    Jon002
    KnightOfFaith
    TimTech
(Any of the original LUNI Devs, Including Raffa)
    (Insert your name here)

    —————————————

I encourage users and developers alike to nominate or vote which user you think should run the developers repository.

Also, if anyone thinks this repository is a waste of time and should be taken down, then please, speak up!

So, if Raffa or any other of the LUNI devs come to file a DMCA, (or something of that sort,) we have the law on our side, I read the license the LUNI Server was under, and I followed it the best I could.

(For anyone who would like to read this license, please visit: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ )

Well, thats about it. If anyone would like to add or comment or criticize, please do!

Oh, and I alsmost forgot the Link:

    https://github.com/mater06/LUNIServerProject

    • I doubt anyone would contribute unless the license stays GPL v3 😉

I nominate Jon, pwjones, humanoid, or lcdr to run it.

    • While I appreciate this, the original license WAS GPL, and CC shouldn’t be used to lucense software. Jon and the rest of the original dev team can all give testimony to this, and it wouldn’t be an issue at all if Tim is able to set up a GitLab instance as I suggested previously.

Just my two cents. I suppose CC could at least be used temporarily as Jon suggested.

      • But CC can’t easily be changed back to GPL 😉 and I will see about getting a GitLab on legouniver.se if we decide to migrate there.

        • Except Jon took the code when it was GPL, and as such derivatives are to be licensed under GPL. Only if the owner (Raffa) changed it beforehand would the resulting license be the new license. If it needs to be Cc for arguments sake though, that’s fine.

          • I know, and it needs to stay GPL.

          • The reason it is under CC, is because in the CC license if clearly states:

ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

            ———————————————————–

Also, from looking on the LUNI SourceForge page, the project is under this license.

I tried my best to follow the license to a tee.

    • I think there’s a mistake in the disclaimer…

I cast my vote for Jon002. He’s the most levelheaded get work done guy around here and knows the most about coding and such it appears.

    • I cast my vote for Jon, too.

    • Definitely voting for Jon. He has the highest understanding of the code here (being an original dev, and none of the others being here), and he is most certainly trusted, respected, and visibly level-headed. Because of his spotty activity, I do suggest that someone else here that can be trusted and knows C++ decently be given merge ability. I have knowledge enough to read the code at least, I can’t say how knowledgable other active people such as Joni and Mater are, or what happened to Star and CD.

      • I can also understand / write C++ but I think you follow this project longer, so you should become merge ability.

      • I can do C++ mainly, (for some reason, I don’t like packets!) And right now I’m figuring out how to travel via gotoworld command! Not through the game though, I’m trying to get it to work via the console.

So, what is it exactly you guys are doing to get the code and programs needed to rebuild LU? Did Lego drop it a few years after it closed? Or is it all being mined?

    • We use the server code libraries LU was built with, but it all needs to be implemented from scratch. Much of knowing what needs to be done comes from the content of the packets that were captured when the game was live, which is not completely understood.
