  1. Okay Timtech, tell me if I have done this right, for hosting a PUBLIC server.
    1. Forward ports 1001, 2002, 2003, 2004
    2. Download server v5
    3. Change redirect_ip to my external ip
    4. Run luniserver.exe
    5. Download the client
    6. Change AUTHSERVERIP to my external ip
    7. Log in with any name and password, and play as CheekyMonkey(to choose a char)

    Am I doing anything wrong?

    Error. When I try and play on any “working” worlds, most of the time it gets to 1% then crashes with error: World server timed out

  2. Okay, for all who are interested, my public server will be on almost 24/7, however it will be down for now until I post otherwise.
    UPDATE = If I can get it to work, I will disable MySQL, so any username/password will work.
    Please post all problems here once the server is online.

    • hey, i tried connecting to your server via changing “AUTHSERVERIP” in boot.cfg to your IP, not sure if that’s how you do it, you might have to correct me.

      I made it to character selection, but trying all the different characters yielded nothing but a 1% load, and then “connection to world server timed out.”

          • Great work though, so test/log again tonight or tomorrow. I am not sure, but you might want to change PATCHSERVERIP either off or, maybe, to MY ip? If i dont here back from timtech, i think the prob is not enough hard drive, i will test that later this week.

          • Putting your own / a server ip into Patchserverip doesn’t work, already tested that. I will test the server later this day (It’s day for me in Germany :P) since I’m currently coding a small laucher to add some userfriendlyness to the project (for new people) and for auto-updating server and client.

          • Atm, it’s a small Console application with a basic GUI. It will be able to manage multible servers, quickly lets you connect to you favorite online servers, lets you play oflline, lets you host a server and edit the server settings without having to search in you files. I’m programming the Serverthing right now, it’s going to be able to manage one server right now, but that’seasy to extend. I’m hoping to have a half-decend working version tomorrow, so you can have a look at it.

          • TheNyJan, someone else got on and managed to delete a char, that’s good 🙂 the last test before I start to clear up MAJOR disk space is changing your PATCHSERVERIP to localhost, as this would force the game to have to use only it’s data. Also, how is the server launcher coming?

          • The first version of the launcher (just server management) is nearly done. IMPORTANT: How can you switch MySQL on and off? I will try what you said quickly.

          • Interesting lol about localhost, MySQL is kind off hard to explain. In the file Common.cpp, on the second line, it should say
            #define LUNI_NO_AUTH
            You must comment this out, then recompile the server. If you don’t know how, there is a file in luniserver/Luni Server it should be a visual studio express file in there, it is right below a file with a dish broadcasting 🙂 I think it’s called Luni Server
            Open up, go to build, build the project, then save.
            You my just have to build Common.cpp, I’m not sure. However, there is no command.

          • Ok, well then.. MySQL switching not implemented in my launcher yet. I wrote 1200 lines of code today, I have no need for implementig this yet. You can find the first release of the launcher down in the comments.

  3. How do I do the password I tried to do a song number for each and then I tried a lettered username and a numbered password. Am I not allowed to use numbers to login?

  5. I haven’t checked here in a while, and I’ve seen you’ve made massive progress! Pardon my ignorance for asking, but what is currently possible, and what will be possible? No matter what I’m glad to see the project hasn’t been abandoned, like many others, and for that you all deserve the highest kudos

    • I’m working on restoring the client after the cache.legouniverse.com removal. Thanks to pwjones, we can switch worlds now (not using rocket, external edits only). Jon002 is going to be uploading some necessary sound files, and TheNyJan is making a custom launcher. CDFalcon is even trying to get a nother public server working after the cache removal.

  7. Hey TimTech! I have LU working on localhost but I can only play nimbus isle and crux prime, but nimbus station and gnarled forest aren’t working. Do you have any tips on how to get those two worlds to work? Thanks!

    • This is a normal, unfixable problem. These worlds crash due to missing sound files in the client, most other world work though. Check out the Q&A for how to switch worlds to play on others.

      • Really its unfixable because of sound files? Why is that? Timtech made a video and he was playing in Nimbus Station so how was he able to accomplish that? Ok I will check out those other worlds as well!

        • I went to the Q&A for the different worlds but when I change the code then go into the game none of the characters are “reassigned” a world. Any tips?

        • The Nimbus Station video was made before the removal of cache.legouniverse.com. Jon002 is going to be uploading all of his audio files, which has a good chance of fixing the problem (he is the one who uploaded the original client asset files, which I zipped into compact files for download).

          • Oh ok. So was cache.legouniverse.com LEGO’s server? That would be awesome if all the audio files work!!

  8. Timtech, could the error=”world server timed out” be a result of not enough space on my hard drive???? How much do you think would be required, I have 5 free gig right now, but I could get 17 by cleaning up some space. If you don’t have to have free disk space, could you tell me, step by step how to make a public server, MySQL or no MySQL? I have seen all the tutorials and followed all steps to the letter, so I’m at my wit’s end!!! Please help. If it’s any help, Patric Reidel had this same problem awhile ago.

    today I want to present you:
    The Lego Universe Newly Imagined LAUNCHER!(Only for Windows. Sorry Mac users.)

    Alpha 0.1

    Here is the list of PLANNED features:
    -Play offline with one click
    -Play online with two clicks
    -Play online on your own server with one click
    -Configure and run multible Servers without needing to touch any files again!
    -Let the launcher download and install all of your files, so you don’t have to deal with that. And the launcher won’t do any mistakes leading to a non-playable client!
    -Enjoy an auto-updated Game, Launcher and Servers, never check for updates again!
    (-Use a Serverbrowser to quickly find a server to play on) – Not sure about that one

    List of IMPLEMENTED features:
    -Configure und run ONE server without touching any files again
    -… mah.

    But remember, I coded this in one day (1200 lines of code),
    so it wont be many weekes before everything is implemented.

    Installation guide:
    1. Download the Launcher
    2. Download a server (you can use an existing one, too) (you will need to have VS 2013 DESKTOP installed, downloading of components is not added yet!)
    3. Put the launcher into a folder of your choice (exept for Program files, Program files (x86) and the Windows folder)
    That’s it!

    Once started, the launcher will create and populate a config, just skip that.

    I plan to redo the input in Menus so you can use the up/down arrows to select the entry you want, for now, just enter the number / the letter in the cornered brackets (e.g. H for [H]ello!)

    EDIT: These are the currently knows issues of version Alpha 0.1:
    -Changing the server’s connection (LAN/Internet) while the server runs is woking, but the “Are you sure” question pops up on every action taken after that.
    Fix: Restart the launcher.
    -Althrough the server crashes while starting sometimes, it get shown as “Online” in the launcher. Fix: Just restart the launcher if that happens. I will fix that with the next version.
    -The server should close when you close the launcher. That is working most times, but not always. Atm, I don’t know why, but I will try to fix that. If you have started the server in background, just check if process “LUNI Server.exe *32” is running (Taskmanager -> Processes or something like that. The second tab, basicly) If it is running, you can close it by selecting it and clicken the bottom right button.

    UPDATE: I updated the Project to version Alpha 0.1.1, you can download it via the download link in the main post. All major bugs (beside the server crash thingy) are fixed, but Auth is still not responsive, so, still, please dont use the launcher to host a server. Maybe you guys can find the issue.

      • You take the Folders “LUNI cms”, “Luni Packet Scout” and “LUNI Server” of your existing Server and put them into the “Server” folder of the launcher (YourLauncherFolder\Data\Server) 🙂

      • I’m not and I don’t think I have the skillz like the others do. Creating a server is WAY more complicated than creating a basic launcher application. But I like beeing part of this anyway 🙂

      • Glad you’re wondering, Brandon. TheNyJan is one of several community members who is working independently to make LUNI better as a whole. The programmers who you are referring to are humanoid, lcdr, and darwin, who worked together to decrypt pwjones’ packets and create a RakNet/MySQL server from it. Jon002 also contributed by hosting a client for all to download.

        Numerous other community improvements have been made. Check through the previous couple dozen comment pages to see previous discussions.

  11. Okay TheNyJan, this is a great launcher other than the big bug lol, but there is still another bug. The “quit” function does not shut down the server all the way, which DISABLES ALL OTHER SERVERS ON THT COMPUTER!!!!! This can be stopped by force restarting the computer though, so it is not to serious. I will be working on the server, but I think this launcher is also a great thing to do too. You should keep coding the launcher will I work on the server, once they is done, we can combine our projects. Could you post the link to the source code, I will have a look. 🙂

      Most major bugs are fixed in this version (The thing you said, too..   12. Hey Timtech I was trying to change the code to play on different worlds but I can’t get it to work. I’m a little confused about the byte thing because I’m not sure if I am suppose to replace the two characters for one character already in the script or if I one byte is like two characters on the script so I’m like replacing two for two (make sense?). When I did try to play the game after changing the code I’t didn’t work so I just need a little help getting the different world thing to work. Thanks.

    • One byte is represented by two hexadecimal characters (0-9 or a-f). The bytes are separated by a space when editing with HEX-Editor and viewing as hex. The checksums are two bytes long, which would be represented by 4 hexadecimal characters.

That is the one code I know more than just basics 🙂 I’m waiting for timtech to get back to me(if he ever does 🙁 ), so I will look over your code tomorrow, and would love to help. I will need a few days(the ones that you are on vacation) to get use to Visual Studio, has I’ve been working on unity mainly. Glad to help, CDFalcon.

    • Yeah, I like C# way better than C++, it’s just much more intuitive and comfortable. I will tidy up the code when I’m back, yesterday I just wanted to push out the first version, so the code will get looking nicer in the next few versions 🙂 And you will get used to visual studio really quickly, especially IntelliSense (the auto-competing thing) is working like a charm.   16. Hey Tim, I’ve been reading up about these missing sound files. My client has all sound files on it (or at least I think it does… It is the full download of the client and all worlds work great). Next time I have access to a computer with FTP, I can uploads /audio folder if you want. It may solve these problems. It may be about a week or so before I can do it though.

  19. Timtech please answer me 🙁 I have one last bug for my public server. Everything works, but when anyone tries to select a character, the world loads to either 0 or 1%, then crashes with error “World Server Timed Out” and goes back to log in. What is causing this prob, and how do I fix it?

    • Reminder that Tim did take an incomplete server, according to everyone on raffa’s page. So it might have some hard to fix bugs because of this.

    • Timed out? Sounds like either slow internet or an incorrect configuration or the client or server.

  21. How can we get npc characters in the worlds? I’ve seen a few in some of the world’s like Bob in the venture explore (but he disappears when you get close) and the pet trainer’s lion pet in pet cove. How can we get all the others?

    • It just so happens that the bytes to spawn them are in the spawn packets of those specific worlds. To spawn customly (or those outside the spawn area) would require a replica manager.

      • So we would have to have something like the bytes there is for the worlds except for the NPCs?

  23. Timtech, what server did you use for the public server? The same as everyone, or a special config? If the second, could you tell me what you changed, as I think a temporary public server would make TONS of people happy(including me lol 😉 ) Hope I can help host Lu again 🙂

    • Umm, what ” Public Server ” what change ?
      Just you wont need to host ? and that’s all ? ;o

      • Yes and no, yes you would not have to host, but also it’s not useless. You can play WITH other people, you just can’t see them. Also in the next update, custom chat is planned, so you could chat with other people. Probably the biggest thing is to help people that can’t set up a server then selves.

      • Yes, you won’t need to host, and it might take a little more time to load depending on your Internet.

    • Plain 0.5 with a modded redirect_ip and forwarded ports.

  24. Hey Tim, I have uploaded my audio client files here: http://timtechsoftware.com/lu/audio.zip. I believe that this contains all audio files. The “ndaudio” folder goes in the /client/res/audio folder (for anyone who doesn’t know 🙂 ). I really hope these work, but please do tell me if you (or others) are having any errors or anything.

      • Are we suppose to just put the files you gave in just the “audio” folder or do we put it inside the “ndaudio” inside the “audio” folder cause I just put the files you gave in the “audio” folder in “res” but it didn’t work.

        • There is a folder inside the ZIP titled “ndaudio”. Place this entire folder inside of {Path To LEGO Software}\LEGO Universe\client\res\audio.

          • Hmmm… I don’t know. It may just be a client issue then… I really don’t know. I saw CDFalcon said his sound files are working. You could try them when he upload them. Other than that, I really don’t know. They work perfectly on mine.

            But one main thing: have people installed LEGO Universe by running the installation? It just unzips the client files (without the /res folder) but I know it edits the Windows Registry, which MAY VERY WELL BE the problem with this…

    You may know about the big bug in my launcher (Auth is not responsive when the server is started by the launcher). I tested starting the server as admin, loading the windows user data for it, starting it with and without shellexecution, nothing worked. Do I have to start any other processes for it to work or do I need to start it with parameters? When I start the server using the launcher and then try to log in using my client, the client is stuck at “Handshaking with Auth” and the server just says “Auth is reccieving a new connection”. When I start THE EXACT SAME SERVER by hand, everything is working normal. The server itself starts normal when started by the launcher, too. Do you have any idea how to fix this problem? Btw could you maybe host some files for the launcher, when it’s done? (And if you like it :P) The files would be following: The newest version of the client, but every single file as one archieve, same for the server, and a few small inis?

  28. I was reading some earlier comments and it seems like enemies and all are a big deal to people. Timtech, you said that we have the code its just very hard, near impossible, to decode. Why is that? Could we get like a professional programmer or something to decode it? It may be a little harder but it seems to me if humanoid, lcdr, and darwin figured out how to decode the code for worlds and all, it should be the same idea to decode the code for enemies just more time consuming.

    • To add enemies, you need a ReplicaManager set up. Currently the devs are working on this, but it takes time.

        • Humanoid24, lcdr, and pwjones I think. Could be more could be less.

          • Definitely Humanoid… lcdr and pwjones were mainly on packets, I think. I know pwjones captured them, and lcdr helped implement them anyway.

            They probably haven’t finished much, or else you’d be hearing about it. Still, they made the original server, so they definitely have the potential.

      • So what is exactly required for a ReplicaManager and what exactly does it do?

        • It manages the positions of entities.

          • all basic npc’s are clones of each other, replicas. So the manager determines where they should and shouldn’t be. You don’t want enemies in avant gardens construction zone!

  29. I was browsing some old pages on here, and i found something interesting. One person clams to have seen, twice, a toxic looking enemy. The name displayed over his head was some volcanic being, but was its code name/level. The ai then ATTACKED the player, and killed him. This monster sounds like it would have fit in with the lord garmadon level that was never unleashed. I wonder if it was decoded in the packets on accident? Which means, there may be more. Scary. But awesome.

    • That’s not possible? It’s the ghost of Lego universe! Hey maybe eventually we can release that never released ninjago level.

      • Lol I was thinking the same thing. Might be creepy walking along and see a monster labeled “volcanicmaelstromlevel38” running right at you. Might run away. Fast. I will post the comment if I can find it.

      • i saw this on my laptop and posted on this site
        to me it looked like a mini-fig that was yellow, never saw it attack though, it was just frozen, mid jump and for me it was on the public server.
        also i have not been on this site as much as i did before, just downloaded the new client c:

        So does this mean that it wont be as hard/more possible to get enemies in the game?

        • No, I think this one was just accidentally decoded with the packets. I think it was at nimbus station. Near the other npc’s. Honestly, it’s terrifying to think there might be more

          • i think its hilarious. i will hunt him down and kill him, once nimbus station with the small amount of npc’s is available again. it’ll be like a hunting challenge! first person to find and kill the creature (with proof) wins the universe!

  36. GUYS I GOT MY SOUND FILES TO WORK!!!!!! ALL WORLDS CAN BE PLAYED, INCLUDING NIMBUS STATION!!!!!!!! Sadly, I have no way of uploading them for you guys 🙁 , but use Jon002’s, they may work. 🙂 I nearly passed out when it got to 100% lol. Jonny Thunder says hi. If you still have Lu installed, use the audio files from that. THEY WORK!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Also, if you do have the origanal audio files(this may work with Jon002’s) MAKE SURE PATCHSERVERIP=nothing, there should be no patchserverip.
      VERY IMPORTANT. Doesn’t work without.

      • To the fix: At least it worked a few times… mah. Will have to find out, what’s going on here.

      • Not yet, still not working.

        • The Launcher is not self-updating yet and I didn’t publish the update yet 😛 Working on it, starting it with a batch file worked this morning, now it doesn’t. Problem is, that either the Auth Loop of the server is not looping (althrough it is..) or (this is probably the case) that the server can’t send the confirmation file that it has to send, when the client tries to log in. I’m currently working on figuring out, why it can’t send things. Maybe I need to open something in the firewall, but why should I? Normally it makes no diffrence if a file is started by the user or some code. This gives me following idea: Maybe it works, if I turn off the firewall. I will post an update if I found out something useful.

          I got it to work. Creating a .lnk file to the server.exe, then a batchfile that calls the .lnk file and then calling the batchfile by the launcher works. That was a hard one.

  39. Hey Timtech,

    would you like to host a few files for the autoupdate function of the launcher?
    This would include a few small files and one copy of the server aswell as the client.
    I would appreciate this extreamly, cause I won’t have to deal with filehosters and their changing download links and Launcherusers won’t have to wait until my slow internet (30kb/s upload) uploaded the new client / server until they can play the newest version of luni. If you want to, I will give you a detailed tutorial on how to manage the files, so everything works, you won’t have to deal with that. Also, I created a tool and updating the files for the launcher dosn’t take longer than 10 minutes (+upload…) from whih 9.8 minutes are waiting, the rest is following my tutorial.

    I would be really thankful, if you could 🙂

    • Sure, let’s work this out.

      What are the sizes of the files? And what are the file extensions? I’ll be glad to do this.

      • Ok, here is a list for all files and their sizes:

        1. One copy of the newest version of the server (22,1 MB atm)
        2. On copy of the newest version of the client (4,53 GB atm)
        (We don’t need this one yet, client thingys are not implemented yet, but we will need it soon)
        3. An .ini with about 75b (for Auto-update)
        4. An .ini with about 461kb (for Auto-update, too)
        5. An .exe with 12kb (You guessed it, for auto-update)
        6. One .dll with 248kb for the .exe to work.

        That’s it. Maybe more files will follow with the next update. One thing to note is, that we can’t use the normal downloads for server and client, since the launcher needs a .zip for every file of the launcher/server. This is, so users can download only the files that are different from the old ones, when you update the server/client.

        Maybe you could give me ftp access to only one folder, where these files are stored, and I will manage the files, but you would have to upload new versions of the client, I woud manage server- and other files.

  40. YES!!! The CDFalcon public 24/7 server will be online starting tomorrow morning!!!

    Important info:
    1. You MUST use my audio files, found here https://db.tt/zPYdpFMU Put inside Lego Universe/client/res.
    NOTE/This file will be uploading through the night.
    NOTE/This file allows ALL worlds to be played. 🙂
    2.Make sure to delete the audio file already there.
    3. You must log in with a username=user_(number 0-9) and password=same number used in username.
    EXAMPILE(user_1; 1)
    4. Edit the packets to go to other worlds.
    5. Post if you have a problem, and the limit of players is around 8.
    6. Admins are usernames CDFalcon and TheNyJan.

    Hope you guys enjoy, and even if your not playing on the server, make sure to download the audio file, as it allows access to all worlds(Including Nimbus Station with npc’s)

  41. CDFalcon, I downloaded your audio files and put them in LEGO Universe/res/audio and deleted PATCHSERVERIP in boot.cfg but now non of the worlds are working except Nimbus Isle. Help me please! Thanks!

    • Ok, this is how it worked for me (Windows 7):

      -Download the .zip
      -Unpack the folder (audio) of the zip onto your desktop
      -Right-click the folder, select properties, select advanced
      -Uncheck the second checkbox (It says something with encryption)
      -Click Ok on both windows
      -Open the folder, in which legouniverse.exe (the client) is and the open the folder “res”. Make sure, the original “audio” folder is still in there. If you already replaced the old on, go ahed and search it in the bin (deleted files) 😛
      -Drag and Drop the audio folder from your desktop
      -When it asks if you want to combine the folders, click yes (do that for all, or just check the little checkbox)
      -When it asks if it should rename the new files, click no (for all, too)

      That’s it. All worlds should work now, have fun 🙂

      • All you have to do is extract NDaudio from my audio, go into the client/res/audio, delete the file NDaudio from audio, then put in MY NDaudio in place of the previous file. MAJOR NOTE PATCHSERVERIP must be nothing!!!!! Do not have it as local host or whatever lego’s was.

    • One last note, log in May take longer than usual, so be patient up to a minute. The lack of sound files is why this server didn’t work before.

  47. There are not any NPCs in my Nimbus Station. How can I fix that?

    • We didn’t discover how to spawn them in yet, you will have to wait until we figure it out.

    • IDK!!! That’s weird :/ Any other bugs other than that?

    • A ReplicaManager built into the server is required to load NPCs. What is happening is that some of the RM packets are preloaded by the server from actual captured packets, but thats it. The devs are currently (I believe) trying to implement this into the server, but like states before, LUNIServer will go nowhere at all until this is implemented, as it handles just about everything from NPCs to Enemies, to Minigames, to Items/Fighting, and even to Racing.

  48. I have noticed that people are having trouble logging in. Could you guys post what wrong? One fix may be to just wait, as log in takes much longer than on a LAN server. Only try this if the game seems to freeze, not crash. Also, how is my audio working for everyone.

  49. Timtech, when you upload the FINISHED(YEA!!!!) client, make sure to leave my link, so people that already have the restored don’t have to redownload, takes so long lol.

  50. the client is fully operational again i see. just got the sound files and they work perfectly. now i can finally do a playthrough on npc nimbus station. i will be doing a video tutorial at the request of falcon, but here is a typed one for ya:
    step 1: download his files (look above for site)
    step 2: save it to your desktop and unzip it.
    step 3. go to your restored client. then open the file “client”, then open the folder “res”, then open the file “audio”.
    step 4: delete the folder inside the “audio” file, it should be called “ndaudio”
    step 5: put the folder you downloaded inside the “audio” file. it should be called “NDAudio”.
    step 6: back in the “client” file (inside of the “restored” client) open “boot”.
    step 7: change “PATCHSERVERIP=0:chache.legouniverse.com” (or whatever comes after “0:”) to “PATCHSERVERIP=0:”. just delete the actual IP, not the whole line.

    • actually yeah there is no sound, odd :/ maybe because it’s from your MAC so they cant be read properly or something?

      • i may have found the problem. the script in the old ndaudiomixer.dat is DRASTICALLY different from the one in the new files

        • there are actually quite a few files missing or changed in the falcon sound files. perhaps that is why the sound isnt working? should i put all the missing ones in place from the old sound files?

          • I don’t think so, but you can try. The reason for missing files is this is the original Lu sound files, so the client is older than Timtechs, but I think no sound is a fare trade for all worlds 😉

          • fixed! i just put all of the missing files into it and it worked :D. tim you should compile a new client so every person who wants sound doesn’t have to go through this junk. call it: “the ultimate client of awesome”

          • thenyjan’s method is identical to mine, only that the computer did it for him automatically DX so i wasted time doing it manually. oh well. follow thenyjan’s instructions for sound. quick tip: DO NOT DELETE “ndaudio”!! if you want all the worlds AND sound, keep “ndaudio”

          • Yeah, as my instructions say, do not delete the old files and everything works fine and rainbows and unicorns and.. wait… ^^
