  1. Guys I’m playing 0.6.1 wrong. It stays at the loading screen so can somebody make an in depth tutorial on how to play it.

      0.5 does all 0.6.1 does in terms of playing.

    • I think you have to play as CheekyMonkey in that version. Wait, no… that’s wrong. You can use custom characters and it will switch to CheekyMonkey. You might want to try again though.

    • No, but Jon has made some progress towards the RM. 0.7 is the dev version and is not planned to release anytime soon (and it doesn’t really have much new stuff either).

    How does this “rewrite” works?
    I’d really like to help.
    I’m not extremly common with C++, but if there are things for “tiny” devs, I’d like to do them.

    • I’m currently designing a new structure for the code, so that it will be much easier to understand for new developers (ie, functions will actually be used effectively to hide a lot of the unnecessary details, and to keep the code clean & organized). Hopefully it will mean people such as yourself will be able to do more with the code. I’ll post more info here as it becomes available.

  6. Timtech what server version are you using??? Because i just remembered what causes your error!! If you are using 5.0 or 5.0, the only way i got around that error was to use MySQL(no clue why)

  9. Have you tried looking at the login and access tokens and other sorts similar to that that would happen to cause the error ‘Submitting Username’? Also, it sounds like that it might have to do with the client not being able to send data to the server if it’s just stuck.. If that isn’t what causes the problem, I’d try looking at the server code just to make sure that there isn’t a simple mistake.

          • Yes, but if you would read the post on my website, you’d realize that their servers cannot withstand 1000 to 2000 players at once. With multiple private servers available, the playerbase can be varied and diverse, therefore making it available for everyone to play, just not on the same single private server.

    The tutorial for installing this confuses me, i’m used to having the download process be simple, such as downloading something, then putting on my desktop and that’s it, or putting it in a folder. If you could make a video tutorial for installing the game itself and the patcher that’d be great and extremely helpful.

    • I can’t make a video tutorial, but I can certainly be more in-depth than Tim’s pitiful tutorial at the top of the page. Follow the instructions below.
      1. Download a .zip file opener. I recommend (and use) WinRAR, which you can download here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
      2. Open nexus2, open client, then find legouniverse.exe and open it. You will need to wait a little while, so be patient. When it has opened, you should come to the normal Lego Universe log in screen.
      3. Open LUNI Server Release and then open LUNI Server.exe, once you’ve done that, log in to Lego Universe using ANY name and password (seriously, just putting “j” in will work, which is what I do) and you should be good to go!

      If you wish to use the character creator, remember the password to delete characters is the same one you logged in with. If you need any more help, I’ll do my best to help you.

      • Oh yeah, forgot to add this step which you should do right after the 1st step:
        Download the “nexus 2” client and “Lego Universe Server 0.5.1” which should say “Recommended” next to it.

          Is WinRAR required for this, i don’t have WinRAR and when i tried opening the actual .exe launcher thing, an error popped up saying a program was missing from my computer even though what was missing was in the folder.
          This is kinda why i was hoping for a video tutorial, i am a visual learning so it’s easier for me to see as opposed to read/hear.

        1. Download the client and server
        2. Don’t get WinRAR… just right-click and hit “Extract All”
        3. Open the server first (double click “LUNI Server.exe”)
        4. Launch the client (double click “legouniverse.exe”)
        5. Play (any username and password)

          It won’t let me open LUNI Server.exe, an error pops up that says: “The program can’t start because libmysql.dll is missing from your (my) computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
          Does it want me to reinstall the server or the libmysql.dll, and if the second thing, how would i reinstall it?

    I also want to thank you guys for what your doing, I’ve only recently discovered what your doing and i am extremely happy, Lego Universe was something that was taken away from us before it could become as big as any other MMO out there, it just shows that when people work together amazing things can happen.

    • Well the problem is that no one is developing. When we can’t move forwards, the direction becomes sideways… or backwards.

      I just haven’t finished legouniver.se yet. I was going to add a bunch of tutorials and stuff to it before we moved.

    Why not try kickstarter? Isn’t it legal to try that? It’s basically donations from people to help a project. Wouldn’t it be like what you’re doing with your server fund raiser only on a bigger scale?

      1. I don’t meet the requirements to start a kickstarter.
      2. We already have enough money as it is.
      3. More money would not make this project go any faster.

      Unless we hire developers or something with the money, I don’t think it would work 😛

          2: The money is going for a public server. Something not really necessary BUT people did donate to it. It was not a “donate to this project and we will make good use of it” button.
          3: I thought we already went over that we didn’t want anymore people knowing about this until we have more project.

  17. This may just me being blind, but what license is Lego Universe under again?
    I can’t find it anywhere.

    • Well, the original LEGO files are still proprietary. All of the files here are GPL v3 (except I think the EasyWorldChanger is GPL v2 but I don’t think that really matters). I hear that some people are going to make future versions AGPL, but I doubt it will actually happen.

    • No developers = no progress

      I don’t have any more time to develop the actual software. It’s pretty much the same with everyone else. Maybe it’s time to cut off these comments because it’s all discussion and no production.

        Please don’t give up, it seems like that LUNI is the only Lego Universe “revival” at the moment, of you give up now everything you’ve worked for will be gone, sure there might not be any progress right now, but we, the community just need to spread the word of this fantastic project without angering LEGO, speaking of, how did you manage to start this project without LEGO instantly shutting it down?

        • Well, we got permission from LEGO representatives for this project. And we’re not shutting down; it’s just that no one is really developing it…

    I’m still confused on how to get this to run, i followed the instructions, the server client said that libmysql.dll was missing, i went to the Q&A thing, i have no idea how to move it where i need to, i have no idea what file i need to open for the launcher because there are so many files, i know you guys are busy but a video tutorial would be really helpful, but again i know that, that isn’t your top priority at the moment.

    • You are using version 0.6.1? Please retry with 0.6 Bundle (you don’t have to get xampp there because it’s included) or with 0.6 Server.

  23. Really glad SOMEONE said: “hey, what ever happened to this? This game’s plot was a brilliant idea.” When I played this in 2012, the story was amazingly fun and endless. And I love how you have the ability to choose your own path, or your own story, with different factions, classes, and strategics. This all determine your fate in this game, and that’s why someone had to revive it. Thanks!

And to add from my other comment, i don’t care if there is going to be an update to make more to the story, it would just be great to at least copy the exact same thing from 2012 and put that in. The story is perfect the way it is, some people might get bored of it, but the fact that it’s coming back is thrilling.

  27. I have a quick question, when an enemy is created in the game is their AI included in the client or is that server side?
    And if it is server side will that have to be rewriten?

For the Launcher itself it worked and showed the white screen with Bob jogging in place, and then it closes, this may be because the server isn’t working, i’m not sure though.

    • Well, for the .dll error, just install Visual Studio 2013 Express for Desktop. It will allow you to modify the server code if you’d like, since it sounds like you have the Source version.

      As for the launcher crashing, it sounds like you have the patched version. You need a full, unpatched client, and I recommend the “Nexus 2” client by startreklover.

            I am playing off of the client i downloaded from this site, the server i used was version 0.5.1 is it possible that i need to download a different one because when i try to open the LUNI Server.exe it says that MSVCP120.dll is missing and that i should try reinstalling the program, i tried reinstalling the server and it did nothing. This is an improvement from before when i couldn’t even get to the log in screen though.

          • Start the server first 😉 try the 0.5.1 release version, or you can install Visual Studio 2013 Express for Desktop to fix your problem.

    • Installing Visual Studio 2013 Express for Desktop is an easy way to get all of the required files to run (and edit) the source version of the LUNIServer. It will address the “MSVCP120.dll missing” error. Without the server, you won’t be able to log in. A specific username and password isn’t necessary for the server version 0.5.1, but 0.6 and above have accounts that are registered to the MySQL database.

        • No, your problems should be fixed after installing VS2013. Many features are not even started, but you can access all of the worlds to explore the terrain (except Keelhaul Canyon).

    Okay, to people who are listening to being told this project its dead. It isn’t. If you want added to the LUNI general discussion skype group post your username and you will be added. This project is not dead don’t be told that and don’t listen to that. There is istno current progress yes. Why? Because Jon002 was the only one doing it. Right now people like CDF, Joni, Knight, and Mater are learning a lot. (I’m trying to learn also but I don’t consider myself anyone who will ever make progress. :P) I have a lot of confidence in them that they can lead the project.

      If this project isn’t dead, why are there no updates? It seems that whoever actually is leading this project is not doing a very good job. I looked up jon and his development on git because I was recommended to start there. Everything is just not been updated, although it says “highly worked on” and “i’ll do this now” but these posts are like 3 weeks old.

      To me, it looks like it’s time to stop learning and talking, and start doing.

      As for myself, I know enough about network traffic to implement packet header functions efficiently, even though I don’t necessarily know C++. The thing is, I’m not going to push a few changes to an obsolete repository when people tell me these people are developing in secret, this guy has this done but he won’t share, that guy did this but it’s 5 months old, and those people are just learning. How can you say that this project is not dead when you are doing nothing except talking about it?

      If there really are people working in secret, or have stuff done but won’t share, (hard to believe right), I would tell them that they are hurting the project by discouraging others.

      Hey, I’ve got no problem with people learning, but I do have a problem when they can’t actually start working and developing this Luni project themselves. Isn’t it time you guys got over past differences and started working together, instead of closing new stuff and promoting old stuff and sueing people and gossiping over Skype and spreading rumors?

      P.S. Don’t try tracing this, it’s a fake name, e-mail, IP address, browser, etc. But do consider what I’ve said and stop acting like immature 5-year-olds who fight with each other. For all the time I’ve followed this project, it’s been “100% free and open source”, but over time it’s become “yeah you can help but everything is secret because this is just a big lie and no one can help us because we aren’t actually doing anything and just talking progress so people will add us on skype or private message and we can tell them what we have done in secret so no one can actually have it except us”.

    • It’s free. There is a developer version for 17000 $, but express is free.
      But it needs 20 GB storage :-(.

    • It’s free, and if you don’t even want to edit the servers I think the C++ redistributables will work for you.

        • You could go through most of the game but just not with other people and without NPCs, quests, etc.

          You can check out a YouTube gameplay video from February 2014 here, because unfortunately gameplay is about the same.

            Ok so, you can go to all of the worlds and fight enemies or just go through some of the worlds and no enemies? If so i’ll just wait until this is more of a game as opposed to a tour through the worlds, maybe you could have some kind of progress forum where everyone involved in this project talks about recent progress that was made and a percentage of how complete the project is, i don’t know, just a suggestion. Also do you think once you have fully restored Lego Universe will new stuff be added or old features added?

          • You can go through all of the worlds and fight no enemies. And sorry, but we haven’t seen any progress for many months.

    • I don’t know if you have the “source” version, but in any case, installing Visual Studio 2013 Express for Desktop will fix the missing resources errors.

    • No way to stop this problem in 0.6.1 without R.M. ( Replica Manager ), this is currently being developed… ( if LUNI is currently being developed, no new updates makes 24 days… )

  43. Tim, the reason I left wasn’t because of lendgames, even though that was a factor, that is not why I left.

    I left because I couldn’t adequately develop with other people, because of this stupid comment section, questions about development can get lost in spam.

    And also, we’re not an “elite group”. Anyone is welcome to join. It’s if they choose to, or not.

    Development is thriving, Tim. More than it ever did with you. Just because we don’t post every update here doesn’t mean we aren’t developing anything.

    To be honest, Tim, there are somethings I’m testing that I haven’t even told the group about.

    So, Tim, sit your @$$ down and be patient. Plus, Darwin and/or humanoid/lcdr May be done before us.

    And Tim, if you really want to “help” this project? Show me you can. Show me you know something that is remotely “helpful” to the project.

      I don’t see how you have been more “helpful” than anyone else here… besides, you may never have known about LUNI (that goes for most of you) if this site didn’t exist.

      • Now this is the thing that makes me angry. You say I’ve done nothing. Have you seen what is on my computer? Just because I haven’t told you what I’m developing doesn’t mean I’m not developing.

        And you know what, Tim? You aren’t just saying I haven’t done anything. You’ve insulted Raffa saying he hasn’t done anything. Just because he didn’t help you get your project done, makes him an enemy.

        And you make LUNI seem like it’s your baby. LUNI is ours, the community. Hence the name open source.

        And to conclude…

        Feeling angry and sad that your developers are leaving? And how we’re taking LUNI?

        Look back two and a half years ago, and who did the same thing with the original LUNI.

        • You have nothing to help others, I don’t care what is on your computer, what you do in private, what your dev team has done, because open source means free, available (publicly), etc.

          That’s the reason I distributed LUNI for everyone, not just some people who develop it in their spare time and don’t want to share.

            You make it sound like you saved the day? :S If the Dev team was still together it may be finished by now.. All you do to combat that argument is to say we wouldn’t know about it without you? Quite honestly not true. Word would spread. If LUNI did finish people would find out and those who had the determination to find it would.

    • No one knows what will be added and when it will be released. In the past month, I have not seen any progress, so don’t count on this stuff being implemented soon.

  45. Tim, I was against Mater attacking you, but your agreements against him are completely wrong. You blame us for devolving quietly right now??? And yet if the old devs do it, that is fine??? Also, do you expect us to post every time we add a bracket??? We don’t want to turn into Mojang, with their 1.8.8. We want .7. Nothing else. No 6.3. No 6.2.1. We are only going to post when we complete the next step. Just like it has been done for the last 4 years.

      No one is acting like a ‘child’ though a lot of people here probably are children. If you have a problem with people exercising the right to development where they want then it must stink to be you. Though there are probably a few unneeded comments. Who are you to even come in and say what we act like? I’ve never even seen you before anyway.

  47. Another thing, how is anyone leaving anyone? The entire last bit of the community is resting in this comment section. The only people “leaving” per say are the users who are butt-hurt about crap in the past. Get over it, we’re not going to get ANYWHERE with you bickering over “HE DID THIS, HE BETRAYEDDDD USS!!!!1”.

        True. No one is ‘leaving’ we are all still viewing and some posting on the site. But this is no llonger the ‘development’ hub.

          • Download the .jar of the EasyWorldChanger (or the .zip and extract it) and select your installation of the LUNI Server 0.5.1 (the EWC is only made for 0.5.1). From there, it’s pretty straightforward. Change the world and log back in.

      • Only about 3 or 4 people actually know what their doing in regards to game development and re-constructing something as large as Lego Universe. What about the other people? Are we going to, as you say, “sit without progress”?

        And don’t act like you know what you’re doing. I’ve been reading this comment section for almost 2 years (Yea, that’s how long its been.) and barely have you shown you have any talent in game development.

        • Also, ever since this new “Dev Hub” has been created there’s hasn’t been ANY progress. Hmm.. i wonder why?

          • Again, THERE IS PROGRESS, you only can’t see it. It don’t makes sense to share uncompleted updates. If you don’t like the developers way to develop, feel free to take the source from Github and make “progress” by yourself. Nobody forces you to wait on new releases.

          • It makes sense to complain if no releases have been made for almost a year. Also, I’ve made the last commits on the public dev site, which are actually good but that site has been inactive for a month as well. 😛 maybe I’ll move to another site too, and see if that gives us some progress.

          • Your giving me very vague answers here, there still isn’t any reason for me to believe you’re actually contributing anything and have a actual grasp on game development. Give me a valid answer with actual factual evidence to backup your said knowledge on things such as MySQL & programming and i’ll agree that you’re contributing to this project.

            CharData Isn’t an answer, either. Too vague. That’s like you asking me what time of ice cream i liked and i simply responded with “Icecream.”.

          • Hmm. Okay. I am the only one here, in the history of LUNI, to grasp packets(want examples: 26s, 23c, char_aw2, and world_2a, also known as the chordate packet) without any help. I literally thought myself LUNI packets. I have a deep understanding of the code in LUNI, am in regular contact with 2 devs, need more? I, along with joni2012, have knowledge of the MySQL database necessary for the server to run, allowing easy editing for, lets see, playing as your own char, changing gear, creating new chars, etc etc etc. I also fixed the clients sound files with some of my own, later been to be completed and edited by startreklover. I was in contact with TheNyJan, whom I considered my first dev partner, together we learned more about the packets and I gave him advice about his side application for LUNI, uHUB(first called LUNI launcher). Around this time I started my public server up in place of Tims. That is my career up to now. For some of my extensive side projects, http://cdfalcondev.wordpress.com.

            So in response, yes, I feel fully capable of calling you a noob. If you dislike slang, i will call you a newbie. Your choice.
